Oberon: So your Father played violin, your Grandfather played oud . . . . . . . . John: My brother Edward who is now a famous Architect played clarinet, my mother was a phenomenal singer – my mother would sing to me – songs like the song you love - Oror, the lullaby. She would sing and I would write it down instead of just listening to her. I have several book shelves FILLED with black notebooks full of this music. My books reflect my culture and life. Really Oberon – this was our life. You know I have students who have said to me, “I would give my life to play like you” and I answer – “I have.” I chose to stay and practice instead of going with our friends, instead of dating – I loved my music, I was immersed in it.
